Interview with Darasuum!

D: lets do this :]

-We shall. So who is Darasuum?

D: Darasuum is, Daniel Guitar 1, Mike Guitar 2, Fick Bass, Gabe Vocals and we just got a new drummer named Marten.

-What do you guys do when you're on you're free time and not busy with the band?

D: well we all work regular day jobs. I (Gabe) work at Merch Connection sending band merch to kids who like to order band merch. Daniel works at Best Buy installing home theater systems. Mike works at a place setting up appointments for his company, and Fick delivers pizza and plays in another band called One Choice (seventh dagger records).

-Most of the time bands have a certain message they want to give out to their fans and listeners... What is your message? How does Darasuum differ from other bands?

D: i don't know what our message is. i would just hope kids read the lyrics and take from it what they can. I can honestly say we don't try to be different than other bands. We aren't trying to change music like a lot of other bands like to claim they're doing. I know, for our area, we have a better work ethic. A lot of bands like to rely on myspace, facebook and twitter for a lot of shit but we still strongly believe in the DIY thing and we try to do what we can with what little we have to work with.

-I respect the DIY way. So what have you guys done? What does Darasuum have under their belt?

D: We released a 3 song demo in a DVD case that was limited to only 100. We ran out of those pretty fast. We just self released an EP that was limited to 200 and it was hand painted and silk screened. That is still available and it also includes the Demo songs. Other than that, we've only played 3 shows since we've been a band. Its kind of hard for our band to tour so we limit our local shows so that we don't lose "hype". But maybe down the road we'll do a small west coast tour and eventually we'll figure out a way to tour the US, Europe and all that shit.

-What can you say you gain from being in a DIY band? What do you learn?

D: you gain nothing really except total control of your money. we don't have to pay %15 to a manager, %10 to a booking agent and we aren't in a big debt to release our CDs. Being a DIY band... you just grow a better appreciation for the good things that come from the hard work you put into the band.

-What has been your most memorable show? You said you all have been in former bands, so which of the 3 with Darasuum and which one with the other bands you have been in?

D: our first show has definitely been our best show, by far. the energy and the mood was just perfect. It blew our expectations out of the water. As for ex members, our original drummer used to drum for xDeathstarx and was the original drummer for Suicide Silence. Mike played in Oblige. Daniel played in Sinai Beach for a couple tours amongst other bands. The res tof us played in other local bands that aren't worthy of dropping haha.

-Yea, why pay for all that when you can DIY haha. Bands that are lazy and cocky kind of piss me off... What pisses Darasuum off the most?

D: fake friends. nothing pisses us off more than a fake friend. Our original drummer bailed on us a week before we had a show because he said god didn't want him in our band and that we made him become a bad person because he would cuss. So i guess religious shit pisses us off too. Or at least the self righteous ones. Thats pretty much it. A lot of our songs are really about friends who i feel have let me down in one way or another.

-REAL. Now... Whats your FAVORITE food? haha...

D: sushi! 3 of us love sushi. We go to an all you can eat place out here and just eat eat and eat.

-I personally am not a fan of sushi haha. What is to come of you guys the next couple months?

D: right now we're writing for a full length and we got an offer to do a split CD with a band from Germany that might happen in the middle of this year. Other than that, just tightening up our new drummer and start playing shows again. Nothing too exciting.

-Sounds good, It was really fun having this interview! haha. Any last words? shout-outs?
